Robot intelligent – Assemblage
Before you go save the world with your new companion, you need to first bring it to life. Here, with our guidance and your expertise, you’ll carry out the first part of your mission. After that, you’ll be moving onto the next part – making the connections. Without wasting any time, let’s get started!
Components Required
Let us have a look at the components you need to assemble your robot:
- Robot chassis
- Motor mounting brackets
- 2 DC motors
- M3 bolts of lengths 8mm, 12mm, and 25mm
- M3 nuts
- A screwdriver
- 1 castor wheel
- Standoffs of length 20mm
- Your comrade’s BRAIN: evive
- Last but not the least: A secret device that will b revealed in the next topic!
Assembly

The robot chassis (also called the base plate) with the required markings are shown in the figure below. When you start, keep in mind that the side shown is the bottom side; the top side has the evive logo printed on it.
- Fasten the motor mounting brackets onto the chassis using 8mm M3 bolts and M3 nuts. Be cautious about the holes you’re using; refer to the figure to avoid confusion.

- Once that is done, mount the two DC motors onto the brackets using 25mm M3 bolts and M3 nuts. Pay attention to the placement and orientation of the motors; refer to the given figure to be sure.
Make sure that the motor wires face inwards. Otherwise, they will collide with the wheels. Fasten the nuts and bolts tightly to ensure that the robot moves smoothly. - Now, couple the wheels with the motors by placing them onto the protruding motor shafts. They will fit perfectly. If not, adjust the motor brackets.
Till now, our robot has two feet – sorry wheels. But it ain’t no human! So it needs at least one more to be stable and be able to walk around on its own. Come in, the castor wheel! - Fasten three 20mm M3 standoffs onto the chassis using 8mm M3 bolts, as shown in the figure. Now fasten the castor wheel to the standoffs using 12mm length M3 bolts. Now the robot is ‘standing on its own feet’. (Its parents will be so proud!)
The base is now ready. All we need now is the brain to make the robot worthy of accompanying you to your missions. - Flip the entire assembly upside down so that the robot is on its wheels, and you can see the evive logo on the chassis facing you.

- Now, place evive on the chassis and fasten it to the chassis at the holes at its back (align its holes with the holes on the chassis such that you can see at least three of them matching) using 12mm M3 bolts. Nuts are already built into evive (you can check that before fastening it); so, you only need the bolts. Refer to the figure in case of confusion.
And you’re done!

It would be better if you do not disassemble the robot after finishing the mission. It will make the following missions easier and less repetitive.
